10 tips for keeping your sex toys in good condition

Including sex toys in your intimate relations can bring great benefits to your life as a couple, whether you have it permanently or not.

Sex toys bring pleasure to your sex and activate your fantasies. Remember that the best sexual organ is your mind.

Like everything, you must take care of your sex toys because otherwise, they will be not so beneficial for you. You can catch any infection or simply your vibrator or dildo could get damaged.

Some suggestions:

1.- Identify which material is your sex toy.

We know there are a great variety of sex toys with different characteristics. The important thing is that you can search if your sex toy is porous or non-porous; in order to know what type of care you must give to it. Usually, the toy must have the characteristics of its manufacture included in the box or in the product description on the seller’s website.

2.- Know the difference between porous and non-porous sex toys.

It’s important for you to know that those that are non-porous are the ones you can share in a safer way, given that its surface is usually smooth and impenetrable by bacteria (the fabrication materials usually are silicon, stainless steel, glass or Pyrex). The porous toys can be made of hard plastic, rubber, neoprene and they usually tend to be more absorbing. This doesn’t mean they’re not safe. Just remember that you have to take care of them and wash them always as indicated in its instructions for use.

3.- Clean your sex toy before and after every use.

Definitely, the cleaner your sex toys are, the longer their useful life will be and you will feel safer when using them. It doesn’t matter if you’re the only one who uses them. If you store it without washing it, you’re at risk of getting an infection because of the bacteria.

4.- Use a mild soap

Avoid using corrosive products that can crack the material of your sex toy and that can store bacteria. The antibacterial gels are not a good choice because they leave residues and they don’t guarantee a deep cleansing. Choose mild soapy solutions instead.

5.- Avoid immersing sex toys with batteries in water

To avoid damaging the toy and maintain an effective cleaning of it, it’ll be enough to clean the vibrators with a cloth with liquid soap and impregnated with a little water to remove the soap.

6.- How can you clean the smooth toys?

The silicon dildos can be washed with water and soap, in the upper part of the dishwasher o place it in boiling water for 10 minutes and disinfect it. (Do not immerse the vibrators because they usually have batteries)

If we’re talking about a Pyrex toy (glass resistant to heat), you can put it in boiling water, in the dishwasher or hand wash it.

If it’s a stainless steel toy, you can put it in boiling water for 10 minutes, soak it in bleach with water (and rinse it thoroughly) or simply wash it in the dishwasher.

When it’s about a glass toy, we recommend washing it with water and soap, without exposing it to high temperatures, and not washing it in the dishwasher to not deform it.

7.- Use the right lubricant

Always use the water-based lubricants because if you use silicon or oil-based one it will adhere to the surface of the toy and will destroy it easily.

8.- If it is a silicone toy, should I use a condom?

If you don’t share your sex toy with another person, it’s ok to just wash it with water and mild soap; but if you share it, we recommend using a condom, because otherwise, it’s harder to eliminate the bacteria. For your safety, it is always best to prevent.

9.- Make sure that your sex toys with batteries are waterproof

It doesn’t matter how many times you have used it, the best thing is to verify its state, put it to the test in order to have a safe and pleasant experience. As a preventive measure, even if toys say they are waterproof, it’s better to test them, like immersing them completely.

10.- Extend the life of your vibrator

Keep your toy in a clean fabric case. This way you will avoid the contact with other objects that may have dust, fluffs or any other infectious organism. Remember that most of your vibrators are objects that you introduce in your body or that you use to touch your susceptible private parts and you must ensure your own well-being.

Likewise, when you finish using it, remove the batteries of your vibrator so that it doesn’t corrode with battery acids. This could damage it completely.
